예수님이 결국 체포당하셨고 제자들은 주님을 버리고 모두 도망갔습니다. 죽은 나사로를 살리신 이후에 급격하게 많은 유대인들이 예수님을 따르고 예루살렘 입성 때 백성들이 마치 왕을 영접하는 듯한 모습은 유대 종교 지도자들에게 예수님을 죽여야겠다는 생각을 할 만큼 큰 위협으로 다가왔습니다. 그래서 그들은 먼저 그 당시 실세였던 안나스 증경 대제사장 집에서 예수님을 어떻게 죽일 것인지 밀실 야합을 했습니다.
본문은 대제사장 가야바의 집에서 불법적으로 예수님을 심문하는 장면입니다. 예수님이 끌려간 곳은 산헤드린 공회가 아니라, 대제사장의 개인 집 뜰이었습니다(58절). 대제사장들과 온 공회가 예수를 죽이려고 갖은 거짓 증거를 들이댔지만 예수님은 침묵으로 일관하셨습니다.

1. 네가 말하였느니라
대제사장 가야바가 “네가 그리스도냐?”고 묻자 예수님은 “네가 말하였느니라”고 단호하고 분명하게 답변하십니다. 예수님은 이 답변이 예수님의 사형선고에 결정적인 증거로 채택될 것을 알고 계셨습니다(59-66절). 신성모독죄, 소위 참람죄 보다 더 애매모호한 죄목은 없지만, 그러나 그것보다 더 확실히 예수님을을 죽일 수 있는 죄목도 없었습니다.
그리스도를 사랑하고, 그리스도를 대망한다던 사람들이 그리스도가 사형에 처하는 것이 합당하다고 선언한 것입니다. 세상에서 교회가 자기의 사명을 다할 때는 참으로 없어서 안 될 귀한 존재지만, 교회에 진리가 떠나고 생명이 없어지면 오히려 세상에 없는 것보다 못한 존재가 되어버리고 맙니다.

2. 그러나 이후에 보리라
“예수께서 이르시되 네가 말하였느니라 그러나 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이 후에 인자가 권능의 우편에 앉아 있는 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라”(24절).
주님은 지금 자기를 미워하는 사람들에 의해 둘러싸여 있습니다. 마치 어린양이 이리 떼에게 둘러싸여 있는 모습과 다를 바 없었습니다. 그러나 주님은 조용히 머리를 드시며 무리가 분명히 듣게 말씀하셨습니다. “인자가 권능의 우편에 앉아 있는 것과, 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 보리라” 이 얼마나 담대하고 신념에 찬 선언입니까?
기독교는 ‘그러나’의 종교 입니다. 사도 바울이 말한 것처럼, 우리가 사방으로 우겨 쌈을 당할지라도 그러나 낙심하지 말아야 합니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,
세상이 ‘네가 그리스도냐?’고 질문을 던질 때, 우리는 ‘우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 하나님의 권능의 보좌 우편에 앉으신 것과, 영광중에 구름을 타고 다시 오실 것을 볼 것’이라고 분명하게 말할 수 있어야 합니다. 너무도 어두운 터널을 지나가고 있는 한국교회 안에서 그곳이 어둡기에 더욱 더 밝고 요긴하게 쓰임 받고 분명하고 담대한 증인이 되는 우리 모두 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.

Are you Christ?
(Matt. 26:57-68)

At last, Jesus was arrested and his disciples left Jesus and ran away. Since Jesus saved Nazareth’ life from death, many Jewish people had followed Jesus. When he entered Jerusalem, the moment just as they welcomed Jesus the Jewish leaders received a huge threat so they wanted to kill Jesus. That is why they plotted in a secret room how to kill Jesus at the house of Annas, Former the High Priest who was influential, at that time.
The text indicates the situation of which Jesus was examined illegally at the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest. The place where Jesus was drawn by them was not the whole Sanhedrin, but the private yard of the High Priest (v. 58). The Chief Priests and the Whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but Jesus remained silent.

1. It is as you say
When the High Priest Caiaphas said to Jesus, “Are you Christ?” Jesus said firmly and clearly said, “Yes, It is as you say.” Jesus knew that this reply would be accepted as decisive evidence for the death sentence (v, 66), There is no more vague charge than Blasphemy, so called, the sin of audacity, which was his response, but it was certain that there was no other charge to kill Jesus.
Those who loved Christ and hoped for Christ declared that Jesus’ execution was reasonable. When the church in the world carries their work wonderfully, it must be a valuable existence in our life. But if the truth leaves from the church and loses its life, it becomes much better than not to exist in the world.

2. In the future you will see me
“Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied, “But I say to all of you. In the future you will see the son of man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven” (v. 64).
Jesus now was surrounded by the people who hated him. It was no different from a lamb which is surrounded by a pack of wolves. However, Jesus raised his head and said clearly to let the crowd hear. “You will see the son of man sitting at the right of Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven”. What a bold and faithful declaration he had?
Christianity is ‘however’, religion. Just as the Apostle Paul said, we are persistently bullied by others, but we are never discouraged.

My beloved Christians,
When the world asks, “Are you Christ?” we must clearly answer, ‘we will see the son of man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ In the midst of Korean churches that pass through a dark tunnel, by making the darkness into light, by being used with a great help, I sincerely pray that all of you will be clear and bold witnesses in the name of Jesus Christ.
