O Lord, remember me!
(Psalm 132:1-18)

Psalm 132 is a song about God’s ark ascending to Jerusalem during the Davidic era. The first part (vv. 1-9) is David’s oath to the Lord. That is to say, he swore to bring God’s ark up to Jerusalem. The latter part of it (vv. 11-18) is a record of God’s response to David’s oath. While the latter part repeats the concept of the first part, it shows that God keeps His covenants far more than His people expect or desire.

1. Remember David’s vow!
This psalm focuses on David who earnestly wanted to bring God’s ark of covenant up to Jerusalem. David had made a vow, “I will not enter my house or go to my bed. I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.” In other words, he did not want to enjoy any rest until the ark of God had been placed in the temple of Jerusalem. None of us have greatly desired God’s glory and His work to the point that we make an oath to sacrifice ourselves as David did. However, we must have an attitude like this, longing to see God’s work done well.

2. Remember the descendant of the pious servant!
The psalmist prays for the sake of the servant, David, that the Lord will not turn His face away from him. This does not mean praying a selfish prayer in order to get one’s own share under the pretense of a pious ancestor. Since God’s promise never changes and is never revoked, he prays according to God’s promise.

3. The achievement of God’s covenant
Verses 8-9 explain that a response was given to the believers who had prayed to God. This response was much greater than they had asked for. Although they had asked for the righteousness of the priest, God promised that He would clothe the priests with salvation. Moreover, although the psalmist had asked that they sing for joy, God promised that they would sing for joy forever. Achievements like these will occur in the future, at the time of the Messiah beyond our present moment.

Conclusion
Nowadays, people are looking for the government to solve their problems, but there is no government that can solve all our problems. Only Jesus Christ who is our Messiah can solve them. All of us living the life of a pilgrim must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ alone. As the Scriptures say, “And put everything under His feet” (Hebrew 2:8). We are God’s creatures who must obey Jesus Christ. By looking to Christ and running towards our goal, I sincerely pray that you and I will run towards God’s reward which has been called by Him from above in the name of Jesus Christ.
