본문 : 시편 135:1-21

시편 120-134편에 나온 15개의 올라가는 노래는 유대인 남자들이 3대 명절 때마다 예루살렘에 올라갈 때 부르는 노래였습니다. 그리고 135편부터 150편까지는 하나님께 찬양하고 예배하는 것을 강조한 시들입니다. ‘여호와를 찬송하라’로 시작한 본시는 이 3개의 단어가 7번 나타나고 있으며 우리의 삶 전체가 하나님께 찬양하는 것으로 채워져야 할 것을 말씀합니다.

1. 찬송에로 초청
여호와의 백성들이 여호와를 위하여 해야 할 가장 큰 일은 예배, 즉 여호와를 찬송하는 일입니다. 성도에게 여호와를 위한 그 어떤 일도 여호와께 예배드리고 찬송하는 일보다 더 소중하거나 긴급하거나 가치가 있는 일은 없습니다.
우리는 예배에 대한 부수적인 것들에 시간과 힘을 쏟고, 예배 자체는 소홀히 하는 우를 범하지 않도록 조심해야 합니다.
시편 135편과 예배시로 알려진 다른 시들에 의하면 우리의 양심이 되살아나지 못하고, 심성이 배부르지 못하고, 깨끗해지지 못하고, 하나님께 마음이 열리지 않으며 깊은 헌신이 없다면 우리는 예배를 드린 것이 아니라고 합니다.

2. 찬송의 주제
하나님은 홀로 찬양 받으실만한 분이시기 때문에 우리는 하나님을 찬양해야 합니다.
우리가 하나님을 찬양할 주제는,
① 하나님은 본래부터 선하시다
② 하나님의 사랑은 선택적이다
③ 하나님은 자연계를 다스리신다
④ 하나님의 은혜는 지속적이다
⑤ 하나님의 이름은 영원하시다

3. 이방인의 신들
15-18절은 이방의 무기력한 신들과 참 신 되신 여호와 하나님을 대조하고 있습니다. 우리를 도울 수도 없고 구원할 수도 없는 아무 것도 아닌 것을 섬기는 어리석은 사람들이 21C에도 얼마든지 있습니다. 시인은 “그것을 만든 자와 그것을 의지하는 자가 다 그것과 같으리로다”(18절)고 말씀합니다. 만일 우리가 사람들이 만든 것을 예배한다면 우리도 그것들처럼 무능하고 헛된 자가 될 것입니다. 그러나 하나님을 예배하면 하나님의 은혜로 우리도 하나님 같이 되고 하나님을 영화롭게 하고 그를 영원토록 즐거워하게 될 것입니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,

시인은 하나님을 두려워하고 그를 아는 모든 사람에게 하나님을 찬양하라고 권고합니다. 영원히 살아계신 유일하신 참 신이신 하나님을 의뢰하므로 그의 구속하심을 받고 영원히 보호함을 받는 저와 여러분이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 소원합니다.


Reason to praise the Lord
(Psalm 135: 1-21)

Psalms 120-134 were fifteen songs of ascent sung by the Jewish men as they were ascending to Jerusalem for the three great festival seasons. And the following Psalms, chapters 135-150, emphasize that we must praise the Lord and worship Him. This Psalm starts with "Praise the Lord," a mere three words that appears seven times. Our entire life must be filled with these words, "Praise the Lord.'

1. An invitation to praise the Lord
The greatest work that all the people of the Lord are called to do for the Lord is worship, that is to say, 'Praise the Lord.' For Christians, there is nothing more precious, urgent, or valuable than worshipping and praising the Lord. You may be concentrating your time and efforts on matters secondary to worship. In the meantime, you must be careful not to neglect worship.
According to Psalm 135, as well as the remaining Psalms which are known as a liturgy of praise, we cannot say that we are worshipping the Lord if we have not been restored in conscience, if we have not been replete in our mind, if we have not lived an honest life, if we have not opened our minds to God, and if we have not sacrificed ourselves.

2. The theme of praising
Because God alone deserves to receive praise, we must praise Him.
These are the reasons why we must praise God:
1) God is by nature good.
2) God's love is a gracious choice.
3) God rules the natural world.
4) God's grace is continuous.
5) God's name is everlasting.

3. The Gentile's gods
Verses 15-18 contrast the Lord who is the true God with the powerless gods of the Gentiles. In the 21st century, there are lots of foolish people who serve things that do not help us, do not save us, and amount to nothing. The psalmist says, "Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them" (v.18). If we worship the things that people have made, we will be powerless and become like the false things they are. However, if we worship God, thanks to His grace, we will be like Him, glorify Him, and please Him.

The psalmist fears God, and advises those he knows to praise God. By trusting the only true God who lives forever, I sincerely pray that you and I will be redeemed and find protection in the name of Jesus Christ.
