Christians in the world
(Psalm 140:1-13)

The subject of this section of the Psalter, starting from Psalm 135 to the end, is worship. It explains what worship is, and how we can worship God, who deserves to receive our worship. However, Psalm 140 refers to evil men who do wicked deeds for themselves and cannot be rescued. The psalmist depicts a human figure that was as depraved as what we find in Romans 3:13. The fact that we do not become just like these evil men is completely due to the work of Jesus Christ in our lives. Therefore, we must give thanks to God and praise Him.

1. The danger we are surrounded with
We are surrounded with violence and deception in this world. Those who love to do evil devise evil plans, wage wars, spread out snares and cords, and make good people fall into their trap. The psalmist thinks that he himself has been caught in the trap. When Jesus sent out his seventy evangelists, he said, "Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves" (Luke 10:3).

2. What can Christians do?
The only thing that Christians can do is to look to God as David did. We must tell God what we need and praise Him, because he will save us. We must confess to God with faith like David, "O Lord, You are my God" (v. 6) and plead for mercy. God is merciful when we come to Him as we are in need of His mercy.
God, who has saved us in the past, will protect us in the present and in the future. "O Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle..." (v. 7). David prayed that his enemies would be expelled. God, who has shielded our head in the past, will not abandon us. Therefore, we must not be afraid of being harmed when we fight the good fight of the faith. God will always be our shield and our very great reward.

3. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 140, which began by focusing on the wicked, ends with praise. The reason is that God will certainly extinguish the wicked men, deliver believers from their oppression, and make the lips and hearts of believers full of praise to God. While others may stay silent, Christians must lift up thanksgiving and praise to the Lord. Although you may have suffered in pain, you can endure the trials until the end, and praise God on high because of His grace.

My beloved Christians!

We must not be led astray by the wicked hands of this evil world. By serving God with our possessions, petitioning His grace, and receiving preservation, protection, and salvation in God, we must change this world and live a successful life. I earnestly pray that all of us will remain as faithful people of God in the name of Jesus Christ.
