Praise the Lord because of everything He has done
(Psalm 147:1-20)

In Psalm 147, the word, ‘He' appears 14 times, and 'the Lord,' 8 times. In other words, we are not at the center of the universe, but God is.

1. Praise be to the Lord, because of His concern for His people
According to Psalm 33:1, "Singing is fitting for the upright." Psalm 92:1 says, "It is good to praise the Lord." And Psalm 135:3 writes, "Sing and praise the Lord, for it is pleasant." In Psalm 147:1, all three of these adjectives are combined. Because of what the Lord has done, praising Him is good, pleasant, and fitting.

2. Praise be to the Lord, because of His care for the least significant
The same God, who determines the number of stars and calls them out by name, takes care of us. Though we were weak and worthless, the God who has created the stars has stooped down to deliver us from the wicked. Therefore, we must praise God.

3. Praise be to the Lord, because of His provision for His creation
The psalmist praises the Lord anew, because He has created the animal world, given them food, and raised them (vv. 7-9). Although animals were not created in the image of God, nonetheless, God takes care of even them.

4. Praise be to the Lord, because of His delight over the godly
The psalmist emphasizes that we must fear God rather than physical power (vv. 10-11). The Lord delights in those who fear Him, and put their hope in His unfailing love, rather than in their own speech and power.

5. Praise be to the Lord, because of His blessing on the nation
In verse 12, the psalmist thinks again of Jerusalem. God has strengthened the bars of their gates, blessed the people, granted peace to their nation, and satisfied them with the finest of wheat. When our nation has peace and prosperity, we must give thanks and praise to God.

6. Praise be to the Lord, because of the revelation of Himself to Israel
The climax of this psalm comes in vv. 19-20. Since God had blessed His people with a revelation of His spoken and written word, they were able to enter into a personal relationship with Him. Therefore, they needed to thank Him. The apostle Paul, in addressing Jewish superiority, said that they had been entrusted with the very words of God. The words of the Bible are the greatest blessing that we have ever received.

My beloved Christians!
The Spirit of God works through the Bible to lead us to spiritual life. In light of all these blessings from God, I earnestly pray that you and I will praise God forever and ever in the name of Jesus Christ.
